Dear New Yorkers,
This week, we discovered that five candidates for the town hall will receive millions of dollars in counterpart funds supported by taxpayers, according to the last disclosure of the City Campaign Financing Council.
Andrew Cuomo, whose campaign, blamed a technical error, has notably absent from this list. (You can see the other Matching mounting halages In our report for candidates, including Jim Walden independent and the member of the Assembly Zohran Mamdani, who has now maximized fundraising.)
However, there will be no cash flow problem when it comes to passing the word on Cuomo. For what? Due to local local political action committees, known as independent expenses, or ies.
They operate separately from the campaigns but collect – and spend – a lot of money on their behalf, a bit like a specific fan club to the candidate.
And the one who supports Cuomo’s race, Fix The City, has already collected nearly $ 5 million – the money they have invested in things like television advertisements, which I saw this week while broadcasting NBC New York news at 5 p.m.
Rachel Holliday Smith of the city wrote a guide on the ieswhy they count a lot and how you can Look for which groups pay for advertisements and leaflets You will see this electoral season.
Keep an eye on, because huge expenses from the main city’s main IES will increase a lot in the coming weeks.
And too! Exciting news On our part: we co-hut many official debates for the primary and general elections this year!

Your electoral questions, answered
❓Matt reader M. asked: Does the winner of the mayor’s general elections in November not obtain at least 40% of the votes to win? With a top two running -in if it is not obtained at least 40%? Or do I mix this with the old voting system of choice (pre-class) for primaries?
Answer: Yes, you think of the old system for primaries. Our general elections in November are decided by anyone who obtains a plurality of the vote – the winner takes everything, even if they get 40% (or less). And, reminder: we could have Up to five candidates in the general this year.

The campaign kicker: Congratulations to the City Elections Council and their voting stickers “Battle of the Boroughs”, which won a coveted prize known as the name “Les Clecles” To raise awareness of stickers which increased the participation of voters. We like to see it.
