The health of mothers and babies is the foundation of healthy families and communities, helping to ensure a hopeful future for all of us.
World Health Day, celebrated on April 7, 2025, will launch a year-round campaign on maternal and newborn health. The campaign, entitled Healthy beginnings, hopeful futureGovernments and the health community will expand efforts to put an end to maternal deaths and avoidable newborns, and to prioritize health and well-term well-term women.

Help every woman and each baby survive and prosper
This task is critical. Tragically, based on the currently published estimates, nearly 300,000 women lose their lives due to pregnancy or childbirth each year, while more than 2 million babies die during their first month of life and about 2 million more are dead. It is about 1 avoidable deaths every 7 seconds.
Based on current trends, 4 in 5 drugs are off-piste to achieve objectives to improve maternal survival by 2030. 1 in 3 will not achieve the objectives to reduce the deaths of the newborn.
Listen to women and families of support
Women and families around the world need high quality care that support them physically and emotionally before, during and after birth.
Health systems must evolve to manage the many health problems that have an impact on maternal and newborn health. These include direct obstetric complications, but also mental health problems, non-transmitted diseases and family planning.
In addition, women and families should be supported by laws and policies that protect their health and rights.
