WASHINGTON,, February 4, 2025 / Prnewswire / – Blue Star Families, the largest and fastest military and veteran support organization in the country, has published today the results of its survey of the lifestyle of the military family (MFLS), marking the 15th year of this transformer research. Duct from March to May 2024The survey has collected more than 5,500 responses to the global scale of active service, national guard and reserve services, veterans and their families.
For years, the investigation has provided critical information to military leaders in all branches, the Ministry of Defense, legislators, the private sector and administration officials, shaping policies that directly support the families of the military .
The results provide critical information on the unique challenges that military and veterans are faced, from the employment of the spouse and child care to mental health care and financial stress.
“The Blue Star Families investigation shows that there are great forces in the military family community – strength in women in uniform, the force in the value that families find in service. However, the challenges are erased preparation , and we must answer as a nation, especially as the entirely volunteer force faces a period of imminent conflict, “said Kathy Roth-DouquetCEO of Blue Star Families.
Key results:
- Incompatible perceptions of the appreciation of military service: While 45% of Americans think that the public really appreciates the sacrifices of the military families, only 19% of families in active service agree.
- Housing and the financial crisis is deepened: A growing proportion of military families cannot cover housing costs with their basic accommodation for housing (BAH). In 2024, only 26% of family respondents in active service said that their monthly housing costs were covered by BAH, compared to 42% in 2020. Junior enlisted families are particularly affected, with only 36% financially stable, compared to 62% active activity- families of service overall and 72% of American adults.
- More members of the service recommend military service: Respondents to the soldiers of women are much more likely to recommend military service to a young family member compared to their male counterparts. Almost 80% of female services express their pride in their achievements during military service, against 69% of their male counterparts.
- Job of the spouse and daycare: Unemployment of the spouse continues to be a significant concern, with 54% of the spouses in active service who cite it as one of the most urgent challenges of their families. In addition, the proportion of families in active service who consider two vital income for their well-being increased from 63% in 2019 to 77% in 2024.
- Mental health care access barriers: Families in active service face major mental health care challenges, with almost 40% meeting waiting lists for their own care and 44% of those looking for care for a child. Almost 90% of those whose child was put on a waiting list waited for more than three months for mental health care.
- The future conflicts of demand improved the preparation for the military family: 83% of families in active service and 67% of Americans think that the United States will engage in a major conflict over the next 3 to 5 years. With the assembly of tensions and conflicts on the horizon, it is imperative that more must be done to strengthen the well-being of the families of the military.
