Girls fight
The second year student of Warwick, Victoria Alvarado, won a state championship during the very first wrestling tournament for girls at the New York State School (Nysphsaa) on February 27 in Albany.
Victoria dominated its weight category, pinning its four opponents during the first period. She started with 33 seconds pins, 1:00 and 2:06 before winning the state title with a pins in 2:04 against Aaliyah Morrow in section 11.
“Tori has had an incredible season and crowned it with a state title, which was our goal to start the year,” said Warwick coach Phil Szumlaski. “She has spent a lot of time throughout the year to prepare for this event and we could not be happier for her. She will now fall into history books as winning one of the first state titles of Nys Girls Wrestling History with two more years to do! »»
The State title intervened after Victoria won championships at the Eastern State Tournament and the section 9 tournament.

Interior athletics boys
Warwick junior Luke Beattie broke his own New York state jump record by cleaning 17 feet, seven inches to the state qualification competition and on the indoor field of section 9 on March 1. Luke’s best safe (and state) was 17-1.25.
Luke will then participate in the meeting of the Championship of the Sports Association of the New York State Lycée on March 8 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. He won the state title last year at 16-0.
Luke will be joined during the state meeting by his teammates in the 800 -meter relay team from Warwick (Isaiah Gonzalez, Ryan Sullivan, Logan Conley and Luke Beattie). The relay team qualified with a second place in a time of 1: 30.73 seconds.
Indoor athletics girls
Rachel Senior Wildcat Venter will also return to the State Meeting after winning the pole jump during the qualification competition in section 9. She erased 12-0 in the competition with an athletics complex at armory. Ventter ranked fifth last year (11-6).
Warwick Junior Reagan Smith qualified for the state meeting in the 600 executed by ranking second in 1: 38.55.
Boys swimming and diving
The eighth year student Drew Voloshin became the first college to win the diving championship at the swimming and diving championships at the Central High School Valley on February 20-22. His teammates Macklin Tomlinson (also a student of eighth) and the senior Lucas Langone finished second and third.
The three Warwick divers qualified for the meeting of the Nysphsaa championship on March 7 in Ithaca.
Voloshin finished with a total of 11 dives of 522.70 points. Tomlinson scored 451,65 and Langone 441.55.
Danté Danyal Hafez and Rory Wright from Warwick, Danyal Hafez and Rory Wright, finished fifth and sixth. The second year student Jaden Klausner finished ninth, while the Wildcats took six of the first 10 places of the event.
“Our divers have trained hard all the season and have done exceptional work,” Warwick diving coach Chris Blackwell said in Mid-Hudson News. “They have implemented excellent results and I am very proud of Drew, Mac and Lucas to qualify for the state meeting. Our whole team did an excellent job during the competition. »»
Warwick Junior Connor Holland qualified for the state meeting by taking second at the 100 meter freestyle (1: 47.17). He also classified fourth in the 100 back (52.91).
Basketball for girls
Warwick won the seeded in the AA class women’s basketball tournament in section 9 and received a Bye in the first round. The Wildcats will play in the semi-finals against the winner of Minisink Valley-FDR at 6 p.m. March 6 at WVHS. The league match is scheduled for March 8 at 4 p.m. at Monroe-Woodbury high school.
Warwick has a 19-1 file, with the only defeat against Cornwall, second seeded.
Basketball boys
The Wildcats, heads third, play Goshen in sixth row at home on March 4 at 6 p.m., the winner will play the second head of Washingtonville in the semi-finals at 4:00 p.m. on March 6. The championship match is scheduled for March 8 at 2 p.m. at Monroe-Woodbury high school.
Warwick (13-7) has won five of his last six games.
Alpine ski girls
Emma Fontaine, a student of Warwick, finished in the top 40 at the Nysphsaa state ski championships in Gore Mountain.
