Indianapolis – Wartburg’s Marshun Williams was selected to attend the NCAA career in the sports forum from May 28 to 31, 2025.

The four-day event in Indianapolis brought together third, fourth and fifth year students interested in staying in sport in their professional careers.

Whether by coaching, working in the health system, raising professional sports in the ranks, by finding a career adjacent to sport or staying in college athletics, the career forum in the sports forum educated participants in the intersection of personal forces and career opportunities.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to network with industry experts, to discover different opportunities in university athletics and to develop professionally and personally,” said Williams. “The scholarship gave me an overview of the work behind the scenes of college athletics, ranging from compliance and operations to student-athlete development.

“One of the most useful dishes for me was to see the passion and the goal that motivates so many people in this industry,” he continued. “This aroused my interest in working with Collegiate Athletics in the future and provided a clearer image of how I can combine my personal interests with significant work. He taught me that athletics is not all in life, and that it is the journey through life that leads to what is most important and memories.

Here is a survival card, based on the theme of the program, “Campfires to Careers”, this program The participants followed their four -day trip to the National Bureau.

Forge your path

The sports career forum has provided tangible experiences to student-athletes to explore professional and career development strategies while offering an overview of the careers available in sports.

The learners participated in pushes specific to industry, in particular coaching, internal relations, external athletics and professional sports.

The participants also listened to speakers every day, notably Joey Graziano, executive vice-president of the strategy and new companies for sports of Pacers Sports and Entertainment, and Lacee ‘Carmon-Johnson, Director of Basketball Progress for the Raptors of Toronto.

In his opening speech, the speaker and author of motivation Charles Bailey encouraged students-athletes to define themselves outside the parameters of their athletics career.

“Most of you have prepared athletic, but you have not invested in preparing with the career choice you need. You have to start preparing now. You are one of the few blessed people who have been in a room full of the most incredible speakers, teachers and leaders in the world.

Conquer new trails

Each session has widened the understanding of the participants of the various roles available in the sport sector, helping them to imagine their future more clearly.

Pitche your tent

Participants were divided into small groups, better known as “motorhome sites”, to have more personal discussions and interactions.

In each campsite, two facilitators guided a group of around thirty-athletes to explore their interests, train tangible objectives and learn to network.

Find your north star

The career forum in sports provides students with priceless opportunities to network with peers and decision-makers at different levels of university athletics.

A networking evening allowed students-athletes to meet the desired career professionals. About 35 career professionals have established individual links with participants about their career in marketing, coaching, communications, administration, academics, development of student-athletes, finance, compliance, strength and conditioning.

The favorite aspect of the forum for many students athletes was the ability to meet their peers.

“Connect with your peers and learn from each other,” said Jennifer Lynne Williams, Forum ceremonial master and US basketball director. “We are talking a lot of networking, but networking with your peers is just as important.
