Trump defended prices and deportations, announced a possible agreement with Volodymyr Zelensky, praised Elon Musk, blamed Joe Biden for the economy, made major political announcements and made fun of the Democrats present.

President Donald Trump relied on his basis during a speech to a joint session of the Congress on Tuesday evening, depicting the actions of the administration – to rename the Gulf of Mexico in the Gulf of America to the elimination of the “poison of the theory of criticism of public schools” – in the context of a “Revolution of common sense” which is “sweeping the world”.
The speech of almost 90 minutes was a marked gap of attempts at unity in previous joint speeches in the congress, but it was not unexpected, according to political science experts from Northeastern University.
Pablo Calderon-Martinez, an associate professor of international relations, compared the speech more to a political rally of Trump than an ambitious speech on the rally.
“He tries to strengthen his message and really strengthen his vision of America to what he considers his main voters and the people who voted for him and the republican party in particular,” said Calderon-Martinez.
Nick Beauchamp, an associate professor of political science, said that the speech is more similar to the inaugural address of the “American carnage” of Trump 2017 than in the style of a state of the Union.
“Overall, I would say that that was what you would expect if you base your expectations on campaign speeches and not the previous joint addresses,” said Beauchamp.
The Democrats – who protested both in silence and, in a case, so noisily that the manager of the congress was withdrawn from the House – were sly by the president, who warned them that not supporting his tax reduction proposal would mean that they would never be elected again “.
The president even promoted certain proposals that have not been universally popular – for example, prices on Mexico, Canada and China, or Elon Musk’s work – which was seated in the home gallery – and the Department of Government Effectiveness.
Here are five points to remember from the speech:
1. Zelensky ready to sign minerals
Trump’s biggest news came at the end when he said he had received a letter from Volodymyr Zelensky indicating that the Ukrainian President was ready to sign a mineral agreement – just a few days after an oval office confrontation and Trump’s frost for the country.
“The letter indicates that Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer,” said Trump.
“I appreciate that he sent this letter, I just had it a little,” he added.
2. The Democrats protest (especially) in silence
Aside from the American representative Al Green of Texas who was withdrawn from the Chamber, the Democrats protested by Trump mainly by signs, messages on t-shirts and white paintings and debraying.
The varied strategy suggests that the party remains in the way of reacting to Trump, said Calderon-Martinez.
“They haven’t changed at all,” he said.
Beauchamp agrees.
“Democrats have tried to disrupt, but have been largely unsuccessful,” he said. “Al Green has managed to do something new by being escorted by the sergeant of arms, but the rest – the cries, the signs, the progressive departures – had little effect.”
3. Middle East a “rough district”
Trump described the Middle East as a “difficult neighborhood”, but he did not explain his idea of ”taking control” from Gaza and redeveloping him in the “Riviera du Middle East”-an idea that led to a significant decline in the Allies of the Middle East as well as help organizations.
This contrasts with his statements towards Greenland – about which he said: “We will finally obtain it” – and his conviction repeated that the longtime agreement of the Panama Canal was unfair and that the channel should be under American control.
“For (the Middle East conflict), it is clearly difficult for them to understand what to boast,” said Beauchamp.
4. Biden attributed the blame
From rise in egg prices has Addressing advice of the economyTrump has blamed his predecessor Joe Biden on several occasions, qualifying the previous administration of disaster and referring to the withdrawal of Afghanistan as the lowest moment in American history.
Beauchamp noted that by mentioning his “weakest problems”, Trump “dodged and warned”.
On inflation and prices, he gave the blame and “quickly pivoted” and barely mentioned how he would drop inflation despite the fact that it was a main campaign subject, said Beauchamp.
And while Trump has discussed the prices for a long time, he also said: “There may be a little adjustment”, “there will be a little disturbance” and “just wear with me”.
Likewise, Beauchamp said Trump essentially admitted that he could do nothing for mass deportations until the Congress has adopted funding for this. There was almost no mention of the next budget fight, the debt stop and ceiling.
5. Trump “saved by God”
Trump referred to his assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania – highlighting the family of the man who was killed during the shooting like his guests – and said that he thought he had been saved to “make America again.”
