My zest for the adventure and the journey is strongly inspired by my father. He is in the sixties but still climbs, insists on getting out of most hikes and stops to admire each sunset he sees.
Although I have I have traveled solo in the world And we had our fair share of a family vacation together, I realized last year that we had never made a trip just the two of us.
Thus, Father’s Day seemed to be the ideal opportunity for our first real father -daughter adventure – a week -long rafting excursion on the Colorado river, rolling through the Tall canyon.
The trip itself was incredible, but the best part was that we had no cellular service or wifi connection.
Without the distraction of social media, work emailsOr incoming texts, I could be present, not only with the wonderful nature around me, but also with my dear father.
Traveling without my phone made me feel again like a child
I loved being able to really connect with my father. Chloé Caldwell
I have been hiking with my father since I was remembering – he attacked me in the back in a baby carrier during some of his adventures. So, embarking on a great outdoor adventure with him at the end of the twenties, felt complete.
By traveling together, I felt like a child again. The experience brought back memories of exploration with him as a young girl, stopping to admire all the tadpoles, flowers, lizards and leaves along the way.
I had no phone at the time, and I did my best to keep it during our vacation.
I took it out to take photos of the incredible sites, but if not, we were disconnected from our daily life. Normally, this could induce anxiety about what I miss, but in this case, it was a refreshing change in rhythm.
Instead of scrolling on social networks until I fall asleep, I chatted with my father in the light of a full moon, lying side by side on torn plastic beds. We were able to connect in peace without the ping of notifications taking us in separate directions.
The trip was an excellent reminder to be more present when I am with my parents
In my opinion, everyone should live a head-to-head trip like this. Chloé Caldwell
Throughout our trip, we amounted by the walls of the canyon at high level of the scratch Cold meat sandwiches For lunch six days in a row.
As an outdoor duo, it was a great trip – and a wonderful way to deepen our connection. It reminded me how precious it is to spend a time without interruption without phone with my parents.
Whether we are on an epic excursion or that we simply sit on the sofa, I want to remember to be present with them so that I can listen carefully to their stories and their advice.
While life continues to get to speed, I firmly keep this week’s simplicity: laughter, silent stars, fear and moments of connection with the guy who taught me for the first time to be curious about the world and to explore.
