Tourists from around the world visiting DC for WorldPride should bring back $ 600 to $ 700 million in revenue to companies in the region.
WorldPride DC brought millions of people to the district to celebrate and highlight the DC 50th anniversary of his first Pride event in 1975.
In addition to their pride, tourists from around the world should bring in $ 700 million in revenue to DC, Maryland and Virginia businesses during the three -week celebration.
WTOP met with the executive director of the non -support chamber of commerce of the DC Metro Area Chamber of Commerce and director of their non -profit organization, the foundation of the Equality Chamber, on the network of 300 queer and allies they represent in the DC region.
“We have restaurants, hotels, bars, consultants,” said Patrick Algyer, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce and Equality. “We wanted to prove and show the economic impact that our members have in DMV in particular, but the way in which the gay community all around supports the economy.”
Kat Dean, director of the Equality Foundation, said that the current political climate had caused known companies To support pride events to go back financially this year.
“The companies we support at DC are generally owners of small businesses,” said Dean. “They are very strong. We are really proud of our owners of DC companies. ”
Algyer is delighted that many members participate in WorldPride DC events.
“It is absolutely the most incredibly important thing that can happen right now,” said Algyer. “I think that a combination of the current administration, of what is happening just across the country, and it is that it is the 50th anniversary of pride to DC, is incredible.”
