Stephen Miller, a high adviser to the White House, said the administration was looking for means to extend its legal power to expel migrants who are illegally in the country.

“The Constitution is clear – and it is of course the supreme law of the country – that the privilege of the brief of Habeas Corpus can be suspended in times of invasion,” he told journalists. “It is therefore an option that we are actively examining.”

Miller added that “it depends largely whether the courts do the right thing or not.”
Habeas Corpus refers to people’s right to challenge their detention before the courts.
