Washington – Vinay Prasad Will will now occupy three separate jobs at the Food and Drug Administration, solidifying his post as a principal adviser to Commissioner Marty Makary.
Prasad will serve as a chief medical and scientific director of the agency, in addition to directing the center which regulates vaccines, genetic therapies and blood supply, according to an internal memo obtained by Stat. Traditionally, the chief scientist of the agency and the chief doctor have played two distinct roles.
“As such, he will serve as a trusted advisor to the FDA Commissioner and other senior officials on medical and emerging medical and scientific problems with an impact on regulatory sciences and public health,” Makary wrote in the memo announcing the news. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
