Ukrainian forces led a huge drone attack targeting Russian bombers and other planes on Sunday, hitting dozens of planes, a security source in Business Insider said.

The source of the Ukraine security service said that the agency had carried out “a special large -scale operation” to destroy the Russian bombers at the most deep inside the country. They said that attack drones struck at least 40 planes, including alert and control planes for A-50 bonseries and strategic bombers Tupolev Tu-95 and Tupolev TU-22M.

Video sequences captured by a drone and obtained by Bi show a row of burning Russian bombers, sending thick black smoke in the air.

Another video captures the moment when a drone hits an airplane.

At least two bombers in these images, including the one struck, are tire covered. Russia used this tactic throughout the war in an apparent attempt to confuse Ukrainian weapons systemsLike drones and missiles, looking for the plane.

“Enemy strategic bombers burn en masse in Russia,” said SBU source in translated remarks. They said Ukraine had attacked four air bases across Russia and said Moscow losses rose to billions of dollars, adding that the number of damaged planes could increase.

The source said that the operation, which was supervised by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, involved more than a year and a half of planning and was “extremely complex from a logistical point of view”.

The SBU transported many small drones in the first person (FPV) to Russia, as well as what looked like wooden shipping boxes. Once all the rooms in the country, the drones were hidden in the boxes, which were placed on trucks. Sunday, the summits of the funds were opened remotely and the drones stole.

BI could not independently check the shared details of the operation against Russia.

On Sunday, Zelenskyy celebrated the drone attack in a post.

“An absolutely brilliant result. A result obtained only by Ukraine. A year, six months and nine days from the start of planning to an effective execution. Our long -term operation,” Zelenskyy said. “Our inhabitants involved in the preparation of the operation were removed from the Russian territory in time.”

Zelenskyy said he had asked Ukraine’s security service to share certain details and results on the operation with the public.

“Of course, everything cannot be revealed at the moment, but it is Ukrainian actions that will undoubtedly be in history books. Ukraine defends itself, and rightly so – we do everything to make Russia feel the need to end this war,” said Zelenskyy. “Russia began this war, Russia must end it.”

The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet published a public declaration on the attack, and has not responded to the request for BI comments on the attack. The Russian embassy did not answer either.

TU-95 and TU-22M Strategic bombers have been used to launch missile strikes against Ukrainian targets. Russia’s attacks have recently intensified; Moscow launched more than 900 drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles over a period of three days at the end of May, officials said.

On Sunday, the Ukrainian Air Force said that Russia had launched 472 attacks and lure drones – the largest bombardment in Moscow with systems not mixed so far. Kyiv said 385 enemy air vehicles had been slaughtered.

The Ukrainian attack on Sunday marks Ukraine’s last deep strike in Russia. kyiv’s forces have repeatedly used drones and missiles produced at the national level to hit air bases, ammunition deposits and weapon sites far behind enemy lines in the past year.
