Valley City (VCSU) – The Valley City State University sports team is expanding its offers, announcing the addition of its first official SKEET shooting team.
The VCSU added shooting sports as an intercollegial sport to mix in the fall of 2024, starting with a trapped team. While trapped shooting involves a single airborne target moving away from competitors, Skeet draws the stakes with two air targets crossing their field of vision. The team is led by the shooting of the sports coach, Dr. Nick Galt and includes six students: seniors Tyler Johnson, Logan Heen and Grant Larson, and first-year students Kasey Odegaard, Cooper Monilaws and Ty Awender.
The new SKEET shooting team was recognized by USA College Clay Target League and begins the competition this spring, starting with the weekly Ligue events on April 2.
“We are delighted to have officially shot from Skeet like any other way for students to represent the VCSU,” said Grant Larson, member of the team, of the VCSU Trap Club. “The shooting sports have gained popularity at the college level, and we want to promote the experience of students at VCSU with activities that are passionate.”
VCSU Shting Sports is partly facilitated by Chuck and Sandi Mielke in Oh Range south of Valley City, where team members train and participate in their weekly events. Oh Range has supported VCSU students in the past five years, as well as the wider community of Valley City for longer.
