Val Kilmer, a movie star who, throughout his career, proved that he was ready for any task, to play an arrogant naval pilot to wear Batman’s costume, died on Tuesday, according to his daughter Mercedes Kilmer, who published a statement to the New York Times and the Associated Press. He was 65 years old.

The cause of death was pneumonia, Mercedes kilmer told the media.

CNN contacted representatives to kilmer and his family to comment.

Kilmer recovered from a diagnosis of throat cancer in 2014 which required tracheotomy surgery that changed his voice.

In recent years, Kilmer has largely moved away from the action, but has made a brief return to the profession in “Top Gun: Maverick”, the rest of the original film that launched it and flowed into the Superstard.

The continuation, which was released in 2022 after a two -year delay, skillfully mixed the kilmer off -screen health problems in the history of the film, with his Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, the sufficient but cool rival to Pete “Maverick” Mitchell by Tom Cruise, finally succumbs to a situation in the film.

As one of the latest Kilmer cinema roles, he concluded one of the most interesting – and bancable – Hollywood history.

Born and raised in the San Fernando valley in California, Kilmer studied at the Hollywood Professional School before going to New York where, at 21, he became the youngest student at the time to be accepted in the theater department of the Julliard School.

He began his film career in the 1984 comedy “Top Secret!” And played in several films throughout the 80s, including his role of escape in “Top Gun” of 1986.

Then came an incredible sequence of films that succeeded in the genre in the 1990s: a superhero film (with “Batman Forever” from 1995, in which he played the Dark Knight), a Western (“Tombstone” from 1993, where he played Doc Holliday), a 1991 biopic (Michael Mann ” Masterpiece “Masterpiece” Masterpiece “.

One of his less lucrative activities included his One-Man stage show “Citizen Twain”, about Mark Twain, whose work he deeply admired and frequently referenced in interviews.

In all, kilmer films have made nearly $ 2 billion at the world box office, according to Comscore.

Throughout her career, the roles that Kilmer has played had an emblematic quality while emphasizing the way in which her career frequently zigned to the point where she could have zaper, at her expense if not in terms of work quality, but how Hollywood and the public perceived it.

Kilmer enthusiastically agreed to play like Batman, for example, but quickly embittered on this experience, transmitting another suite in favor of the forgetable restart “The Saint”.

Likewise, he played a role in “The island of Dr Moreau” in order to play in front of Marlon Brando, only to compete with the director John Frankenheimer (exchanges taken in camera) and be disappointed when a detached Brando periodically refused to come on the set, leaving a stand-in to take its place.

He thought about his career and his life in The 2021 “Val” documentary Thanks to the interactions, he had recorded with his family and on filming trays for years, including behind -the -scenes images of “Tommstone” and the “Top Gun” distribution after hours (“we were all at the start of our career”, recalls Kilmer).

At the time, Kilmer recovered from a throat cancer surgery, then his son, Jack, read the actor’s written narration – strangely resembling his father.

Kilmer frequently expressed his desire to work with certain directors, showing hearing videos that he has shot for games that he did not land in “Goodfellas” and “Full Metal Jacket”, seeking to impress the directors Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick, respectively. He also documented his laborious hearing and preparation process to represent Jim Morrison in “The Doors”.

In the end, in the documentary, he expressed his enthusiasm about everything that would then come.

“I behaved strangely to some. I deny anything of all that and I have no regrets because I lost and found parts of myself that I did not know existing. I am blessed,” he said in the film.

“Well, something that was reaffirmed to me – at such a level, it was almost shocking – was a feeling of universal love, a kind of power and a different meaning of love. It arrived in my conscience and my body while I was in the hospital”, he saidadded that he did not “believe in death”.

Kilmer is survived by his two adult children, Jack and Mercedes, his marriage to the co-star of “Willow” Joanne Whalley.

The young Kilmers are both actors and were involved in projects with their father.

Despite his condition at the time of the 2021 documentary and the tragedies which understood the death of his younger brother at 15, Kilmer spoke of leading a “magic life”.

He said he had found the silver lining even though he endured fans asking for the same “Top Gun” inspiration autograph you can be my Wingman “again and again on Comic-Con.
