As extreme weather conditions become more frequent, the need for greater attenuation of forest fires is more important than ever. Forest fires and heartbreaking wind storms in January only emphasize this fact.
“January forest fires highlight the importance of mitigation plans and the need for continuous and evolving tools to maintain infrastructure resilience,” said Steven Powell, president and chief executive officer of South California Edison. “Although you cannot eliminate forest risks, we continue to invest in new and innovative solutions to get as close as possible to zero.”
To protect communities, SCE integrates advanced technologies that increase its forest fire prevention capacities and describe these tools in its update Forest fire mitigation plan. In the updated plan, current programs are being expanded and several new pilot programs will be launched to help improve forest fire safety.
