Customs and the protection of American borders reveal certain details on a border control point operation of several days which caused major delays north for travelers returning to Canada.
Several unexpected control points appeared just before the border crossing of Peace Arch last week.
“Each car, they opened the hood,” said American immigration lawyer Len Saunders, who worked at Blaine Wa. For 25 years said.
“They crossed the trunk of the car. They asked questions. It was not a random search. They mainly target each car in Canada. “
The US border officials said that as part of its national security mission, border agents regularly carried out inspections on outgoing traffic.
“These inspections are an essential tool to understand the desired individuals as well as to grasp a variety of smuggling, which ultimately makes our communities safer.”
The agency said that for four days of searches, the police found “a few crises of minor narcotics and nearly 300 rounds of 9 mm of ammunition as well as nearly 40 towers of 12 caliber”.

“For an additional reference, on the success of outgoing operations, here is an example of outgoing methamphetamine crisis in Sea-Tac: Seattle CBP officers seize more than 18 pounds of methamphetamine and an outgoing cocaine crisis in Detroit,” they added.

Saunders said that the police found in the border crossing of Peace Arch and Blaine was “practically nothing”.
“It was a colossal loss of time, a colossal waste of government resources.”
The number of Canadians who go to the United States continues to drop and the mayor of Blaine said that global new companies were suffering.
“Anything that gives the impression that there is something harmful to do really helps,” said Mayor Mary Lou Steward.
“I really don’t want any disturbance of any type of Canadian traffic who descends to Blaine. We really need people to return and buy in Blaine and go to restaurants and be there. ”
Steward said they got any opinions that these additional occasional controls would continue, but they are not fully immune to blue.
For Saunders, he said it could be the “last nail in the coffin”.
“No one will come here if they hear that they can be subject to these inspections. So I hope that everything will come back to normal shortly and you will not see these daily routine operations still in force.”
