Lower Mainland health officials warn a worrying increase Mpox case.
While the number of cases reported in British Columbia last year, 96, was down compared to a summit of 190 in 2022 when MPOX spread to 70 countries around the world, Vancouver Coastal Health said that there had already been 19 cases reported this year.
Most of these cases were in the Vancouver coastal health region and were mainly in men who have sex with men. More than half of the cases were also among people who were not vaccinated or had not received two doses of the vaccine.

Health managers have said that people who are not fully vaccinated generally have a softer reaction to the virus but can still transmit it.
Fortunately, there has been no hospitalization or death of the virus last year or to date in 2025.
MPOX is generally distributed by the transmission of the person to the person, the symptoms generally appear one to two weeks after exposure.
Infections often start with pseudo-Grippal symptoms before the patient develops a rash and lesions that may appear on the hands, feet, mouths or genitals.
“MPOX is usually a light disease, and most people are recovered by themselves after a few weeks,” said Vancouver Coastal Health.
“However, non -vaccinated individuals may suffer from moderate or serious disease.”
Health officials urge people who can be in danger, including gays, bisexuals and other men who have sex with men, to vaccge entirely.
