The University’s Estports and Entertainment Commercial and Entertainment Program will host the Symposium responsible for game games and digital entertainment from 9 a.m. Monday March 10 at Mountainlair, the theater Gluck.
Created in collaboration with the School of Sports Sciences Bolton Center for Sports Ethics and the John Chambers College of Business and Economics Center for Responsible Gaming Research, the first event of the genre at university allows campuses to connect with leaders in digital entertainment and game fields.
“The vision we had when we launched the Esports commercial and entertainment program was to be able to have the ability to do things like this where we can have all these partners from the whole campus who see that Estports is something that works well with all these other potential career paths,” said the Academic Director of WVU, Chris Scroggins.
“It will be a truly unique event that will give our students who are delighted with these areas a chance to meet and learn from great professionals that we are able to go here on campus.”
The symposium will extend over the whole day, from 9 a.m. with various presentations and panels and ending with a social opportunity and student networking from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. in the Mountainlair room, Shenandoah.
The event speakers will focus on technology, regulation, business, marketing, responsible games, e-sport, traditional sport, women in industry and future research.
Benjamin Truman, founder of Mediatroopers and Red Apple Tech. Truman graduated university in 2007.
“A large part of what is going to be said comes from the point of view of things I want people to have told me when I was a student,” said Truman. “It will be an excellent event that will really help generate a certain excitement for what Chris and the Esports WVU program does. We want to show people that, if they are in business school, they should take esports and entertainment lessons because it’s fun and there are many ways to see all these things able to meet.
“This is the purpose of such events, showing all the possibilities to know where you can take these passions you have.”
Staff leaders and students are encouraged to RSVP for the event.
