The hotel tradies council represents 40,000 hotel and non -managerial game employees in New York and New Jersey.
“In these difficult times for New Yorkers, it is essential that we have a mayor with a proven history of effective government management to lead us to a better future,” wrote Rich Maroko, president of the Ny Hotel & Gaming Trades Council, in a statement before the approval obtained by NY1.
“This is why we approve of Andrew Cuomo to be the next mayor of New York,” he said, highlighting the support by Cuomo of union jobs in the game and hotel industry.
“Now, especially since our union addresses a renegotiation of our hotel contract on the scale of the city which will determine the means of subsistence of our members and their families for the next decade, we need a leader who understands what is at stake and we will have our backs through all of this,” added Maroko.
32BJ represents approximately 90,000 employees of the real estate service such as security guards, bus drivers and food services workers.
“New York needs a strong mayor who has a vision and a plan to deliver for workers in our big city. Someone who has shown that they are with members of 32BJ and will continue to be. Someone who has demonstrated the know-how to lead in times of crisis and who has actually led a complicated government system”, Manny Pastreich, president of 32BJ Seiu, told NY1 in a statement.
“Andrew Cuomo is equipped to resist attacks against our city that threaten our finances, our jobs, our public transport, our health care, our social security and our rights. He has concrete plans to combat our housing and health workers as mayor and as a governor, he has shown how to deliver for workers, “said Sastreich’s declaration.
The two unions supported Cuomo during his previous governor races.
But in 2021, when Cuomo Face Several scandals and a possible dismissal of the State Assembly led by Democrats, both HTC and 32BJ called for her resignation.
Maroko called his detailed behavior in the report on the sexual harassment of the public prosecutor of the Letitia James “deeply disturbing” and said that the assembly should move to the dismissal if Cuomo does not resign – and the former president of 32BJ, Kyle Bragg, accepted.
Mayor Eric Adams received the support of HTC And 32BJ In his successful candidacy in 2021, when he ran and won as a democrat.
Although Adams now presents itself to re -election as an independence after the rejection of its federal criminal corruption case, it is very unusual that two major unions abandon an in -practice mayor.
Since the announcement of his mayor campaign, Cuomo has accumulated amendment Other unions, including the local section 237 of the teams and the carpenters’ council, as well as the legislators in office of the municipal council and the state legislature.
He also had an impressive atmospherequalifying it for millions of public campaign funds.
“My campaign concerns New York workers who have failed for too long by their government for too long,” Cuomo told NY1. “The members of HTC and 32BJ Seiu are the backbone of New York. They clean our buildings, direct our hotels, take care of our communities and maintain this city in movement.”
