President-elect Donald Trump On Saturday, he named Devin Nunes, CEO of Trump’s TruthSocial platform, as chairman of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Council.

“I am pleased to announce that I will nominate Devin Nunes, CEO of TruthSocial, to serve as Chairman of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Council, comprised of distinguished citizens from outside the federal government,” Trump announced on TruthSocial.

Nunes, a key Trump ally and former California representative, left Congress in 2021 to become CEO of the Trump Media and Technology Group, which runs TruthSocial. During his time in Congress, Nunes chaired the House Intelligence Committee and was one of Trump’s staunchest allies.

As chairman of the Intelligence Committee, Nunes issued a note in 2018, alleging an FBI plot against Trump and raising questions about the office’s surveillance of one of Trump’s campaign aides in 2016. The memo received pushback from some Democrats, who called him “deliberately misleading”.

Trump also wrote: “As he continues his leadership of the Trump Media & Technology Group, Devin will draw on his experience as former Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and his key role in exposing Russia, about Russia and the Russian hoax, to provide me with independent information. assessments of the effectiveness and adequacy of the activities of the American intelligence community. Congratulations Devin!

The advisory council is an independent group within the executive office that provides to the Chairman of the Independent Advice on the Effectiveness of the Intelligence Community. The board of directors has direct access to the information it needs to make decisions and communicate with the president.

Nunes will remain CEO of TruthSocial while serving on the advisory board, Trump said Saturday.

Nunes’ appointment is the latest in a series of administrative choices related to Trump’s media company. Linda McMahon, Trump’s pick for Education Department, and Kash Patel, his pick for FBI director, both sit to the company’s board of directors.
