Dozens of scientists went to San Francisco this week for a banal conference with federal research officials. On Wednesday, the day before their starting point, they received a surprising message: due to a temporary ban on official trips for the staff of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, its donors would no longer participate in person. The event of the day and in person would rather take place practically and last about 90 minutes.
The next day, two minutes after the start of the virtual rally, they received a second email: the conference was canceled. No explanation has been given.
This event, focused on the development of AI tools to help diagnose rare diseases, was perhaps one of the hundreds of health and science derailleurs gatherings by the Trump administration, of which of which freeze communicationsTravel and diversity efforts sowed chaos in federal agencies.
