June 1st Hudson’s Bay Canada stores have closed for good – including that of St. Albert, Alta.
“It was actually mixed emotions,” said Muna Abdulhussain, who worked in the bay for 15 years.
“It was sad, very emotional to see our customers. We had very loyal customers there and have established a good relationship with them. ”
This last day, the staff – past and present – opened a piece of history stored in the wall; A time capsule from 1995. It was to be opened in 2045.
“When we opened the frame, there was a hole in the wall, and they caught the box and there was already an attached key,” said Abdulhussain.

“They opened this box (and) it was like opening a treasure.”
The capsule contained a range of memories – personnel names, photos of the 325 of the companyth Birthday, a catalog, a newspaper, a comic strip on Hudson’s Bay, a CD des Eagles and two cassettes: The Lion King Tandon soundtrack and a tragically trendy album.

“Immediately, the store employees and the store manager decided that it was really something that shows the history of the bay in St. Albert,” said the curator of the Museum of the Museum Heritage, Martin Bierens.
Hudson’s Bay staff made the decision to give it to the Museum of the Museum Heritage in St. Albert.
“It’s not too often, we get a time capsule, so it’s a unique gift,” said Bierens.
“The capture of the end of the Hudson Bay company is very important for our museum. The Hudson’s Bay society has had an influence in our community since the foundation of the community which has become St Albert. ”
