Oakland County Sheriff Arrests Three Suspects in Pontiac Businessman’s Murder

Three suspects have been arrested and charged with the murder of a Pontiac businessman killed in a marijuana business.

PONTIAC, Mich. (FOX 2) – An investigation involving multiple police agencies in two states has led to the arrest and charges of three men in connection with the murder of Pontiac businessman Sam Simko.

William Creasy and Scott Brown were charged with murder and armed robbery. A third suspect, Deonte Prophett, was charged with murder, armed robbery, possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

What they say:

The three men allegedly murdered Simko, a 66-year-old Commerce Township resident and co-owner of a Pontiac marijuana growing business, during an armed robbery Monday.

One of the men, Creasy, was let in by Simko and, as he left, he allegedly held the door open for Prophett who was armed and for Brown, who burst in wearing masks and gloves.

Once inside, they shot the victim, tied him up and put a bag over his head. There was no cash inside the store at the time, but Bouchard says the three men then stole about 50 pounds of marijuana.

“Masked and gloved individuals, as they burst into the business, virtually executed the owner,” Bouchard said. “This is obviously a cautionary tale for marijuana businesses, because they deal in two things that have value to criminals, both cash – which this particular location did not have , but they often like in a dispensary so you have cash and drugs.

The suspects: Deonte Prophett, left, William Creasy and Scott Brown.

Simko was discovered by his business partner inside the store shortly after 8 p.m. Monday evening, who called 911.

Bouchard said Simko allegedly met one of the suspects at the Ann Arbor Hash Bash. Creasy at one point called a meeting at the company.

What we know:

Video footage from Simko’s business showed a Buick Lacrosse used in the crime, registered to Creasy in Cincinnati, Ohio, and that Creasy had rented a Ford Expedition that was used in the murder, in Cincinnati on the day of the murder, investigators said.

Creasy and Brown were arrested in Cincinnati on January 14, 2025. Prophett was arrested in Cincinnati on January 15, 2025. They are expected to be extradited to Michigan in the coming days.

Marijuana business owner killed in Pontiac, suspects found in Ohio

Three men wanted for killing a Pontiac business owner and fleeing with 50 pounds of marijuana have been arrested and charged.

A .45 caliber firearm was found and investigators believe it was used at the murder scene.

Bouchard called the quick arrests excellent police work, adding that about 50 law enforcement officers from multiple agencies were present.

The operation included the Detroit and Cincinnati ATF offices, the Pontiac Sheriff’s Office substation, the Cincinnati Gun and Crime Intelligence Center, and the Fugitive Apprehension Team from the Oakland County Sheriff.

“This involved over 50 law enforcement personnel over a short period of time,” he said. “The investigation is ongoing to determine if there is any other involvement.”
