“Their marriage was organized four months ago and they were both happy and there had been no fight between the couple before or after the marriage,” Raja’s other brother told the BBC.
The newlyweds left for their honeymoon on May 20, but disappeared four days later, which caused a generalized rescue mission through wild land.
After a week of research, Raja’s body was discovered in a throat. His throat had been split and his wallet as well as a gold ring and a chain lacked. Meanwhile, Sonam was not found.
Their families launched a joint campaign against the police in Meghalaya, accusing the authorities of not doing enough to locate Sonam or of discovering the circumstances surrounding the death of Raja, and demanded that the case be given to the federal investigators.
