The playoffs are upon us for us for the vineyard spring sports teams while the regular season ends this week with a last fight against Nantucket in tap for several teams on Saturday.
The baseball team will see most of the whales because they will compete in the shark tank on Saturday at 11:30 am before going to Nantucket on Monday to return.
After a 3-0 victory Tuesday against Cardinal Spellman on the road, the boys have a chance to sneak in the playoffs if they sweep the Whalers in the last two games.
In the victory over the cardinals, the vineyards marked all their races in fifth round while Eli Bryant launched a laundering at once on the mound. He also went one for three to the dish and marked a race. Lathrop Keene managed two points struck and also scored. Matt Day completed the vineyard offensive, going one for three and marking a race. It was the third victory of the vineyards in their last four games.
During their last six games, the Women’s Crosse team went three and three, also leaving them the playoffs. On Monday, they went to Brockton to play Cardinal Spellman and won 12-7. Lizzy Chvatal was the top scorer in the vineyard with four goals. Ava Mikos, Brynn Savva, Annabelle Metell and Charlotte Scott all scored twice and Lara Sedlier completed the vineyard score. Alex Royal made eight stops in victory.
On Wednesday, the girls are on the cape to play Sturgis East before going to Nantucket to play the whalers on Saturday. With a record of 8-8 at the moment, if they divided the last two games, that should be everything they need to enter the dance.
Despite the loss of eight in a row, the boys’ butt team also has an external chance to make the playoffs. Currently ranked 29th in division three, the boys have a home match against Nantucket on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and a victory could hit their ticket for the playoffs.
However, whalers will not be easy. Currently classified fifth in division four and leaving a championship in this division last year, the rivals of the vineyard will be triggered to have the chance to sweep the series of the season. It will be one not to be missed.
Then there are the vineyard tennis teams, both with a single defeat in the season. The boys are classified second and the girls third in division three. With the aspirations of the State championship, Crunch Time now begins after the two teams beat the power of the two Sharon division to close the regular season on Tuesday.
The only boys’ defeat of the season came against Sharon last week on the road and they avenged him with a 3-2 victory at home. With a top two secure series, they will have a home advantage throughout the playoffs that start next week.
Girls’ victory over Sharon was again thanks to an excellent double game while Leah Thomson and Zoe Treitman won the first double 7-5, 6-2 and Ella Moran and Clementine Zeender match won the second 6-3, 6-4 game. Charlotte Marshard won the second single game for MV 6-1, 6-4.
Like boys, girls should also have an advantage at home for the majority of their playoff race from next week.
The sailing team, which won five rides in a row, also won the playoffs to improve its record at 14-7 while doing 9-2 in the Cape and Islands League.
During their sequence of five consecutive victories, the vineyards beat Hingham, Sturgis, Falmouth, Monomoy and Nauset. Thursday, they will end the regular season against the Whalers at the Great Harbor Yacht Club on Nantucket.
The golf women’s team qualified for the Cape and Islands League championship after winning their fifth victory of the season last Thursday against Faloth for their third consecutive victory. Although they did not have a golfer in the first three, it was always an incredibly successful first year as university sport for vineyards. The future is brilliant for golf girls on the island.
Finally, the athletics team participated in the Cape and Islands League championship Tuesday in Barnstable. The best finish of the vineyards were Madison Mello, who ranked first at the weight throwing with a draw of 34-10, almost three feet more from second place and the second on disc with a 96-01 throw.
