Crookston, Minnesota – The University of Minnesota Crookston launched a program of sports media and communication diplomas.

The diploma, offered as an adult and minor within the framework of the Department of Social Sciences, Social Sciences and Education, combines a “solid basis in the media, communication and digital technologies with an in -depth understanding of sports culture, offering students the skills necessary to excel in sports journalism, broadcasting, public relations and content creation”, said a press release announcing the program.

“This innovative offer reflects the university’s commitment to respond to the demands of an increasingly dynamic field and to help students succeed in a wide range of sport related to sport,” the statement said.

The program will be available on campus and online, and will focus on helping students to interview, edition, narration and audio and multimedia production. Public relations and marketing communication strategies, as well as presentation and technology skills, will be part of the program. The publication has listed the sports writer, sports research and the analyst and the media specialist as possible careers for students who follow the program.

Megan Bell, associate professor of communication, said that the university was delighted to give sports students to find work in the field, whatever the sporting capacity.

“Taking advantage of the sport and having the desire to communicate about them has the potential to make this program a good choice for athletes and non-athletes,” she said in the press release.

The UMC’s decision to start its sports and communication media program is continuing a trend in information on journalism and communications in the region.

At the beginning of 2024, the University of Dakota in the North announced the return of its journalism study program, following the approval of the State Board of Higher Education.

Our editorial room occasionally reports stories under a signature of “staff”. Often, the signature of the “staff” is used during the rewriting of basic information which comes from official sources, such as a press release from the city on a closure of the road, and which require little or no report. Sometimes this signature is used when a news includes many authors or when history is formed by aggregating the news previously reported from various sources. If external sources are used, it is noted in history.
