The University of Minnesota and Essentia Health, based in Duluth, offer a new non -profit organization for university medicine. Organizations claim that they will spend $ 1 billion over five years to build a “solution for the health system of all Minnesota”.
The U said that much more work was necessary to carry out the proposal. Friday’s announcement indicates that the new integrated health executive would reinvest in campus medical facilities, health care in rural areas and increases access to high levels of specialized care.
Essential Health employs around 15,000 people, including more than 2,200 doctors and advanced practitioners.
Dr. Rebecca Cunningham, president of the university, said that the new entity would extend the imprint of the university care system. This would also meet the needs of current and future patients of the university and would train the next generation of health professionals throughout the state.

The University is currently operating within the framework of a collaboration agreement with Fairview Health Services. This agreement ends next year. In December, the U announced a restructuring plan.
The university has long wanted to buy the assets of Fairview Health Services, Including the University of Minnesota Medical Center.
Cunningham said the time had come to bring together stakeholders and partners to have a conversation that would advance the next steps. “We hope, as it advances, have a daring vision in place before the end of 2026, when our current agreements ended,” she said.
Essentia Health and U U agree on the alignment of resources, said Dr. David Herman, CEO of Essentia Health.
“The structure of this project remains to be determined,” he said. “We need new partners and new relationships to achieve it as effectively as possible. As we continue discussions with other partners, we will start to become more solid on this structure.
A university spokesperson said that the University and Essentia had started a conversation with Fairview about the new proposal.
FairView said that he had read university discussions in the past 24 hours with Essentia and have received no details on the concept.
“In the past year, we have worked in good faith to meet the university’s desire to buy academic assets,” said Fairview in a statement. The announcement made today by the University reflects a sudden change in its declared desire.
