The Ministry of Internal Security said on Friday that it would revoke legal protections for hundreds of thousands of Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans, preparing them for potential expulsion in about a month.

The order applies to around 532,000 people from the four countries that have come to the United States since October 2022. They arrived with financial sponsors and received permits to live and work in the Secretary in the United States of internal security, Kristi Noem, they will lose their legal status on April 24, or 30 days after the publication of the opinion in the federal register.

The new policy has an impact on people who are already in the United States and who have been part of the humanitarian conditional release program. He follows a previous decision of the Trump administration to put an end to what she called the “broad abuse” of the humanitarian parole, a long-standing legal tool that the presidents have used to allow people from countries where there is a war or political instability to enter and live temporarily in the United States

During his campaign, President Donald Trump promised to deport millions of people to the United States illegally, and as president, he also ended the legal paths so that immigrants come to the United States and stay.

DHS said parole without legal basis to stay in the United States “had to leave” before their date of termination.

“Conditional release is intrinsically temporary, and parole is not an underlying basis to obtain immigration status,” said the DHS.

Before the new order, the program beneficiaries could stay in the United States until the expiration of their parole, although the administration has ceased to process their requests for asylum, visas and other requests that could allow them to stay longer.

The administration decision has already been challenged by the federal courts.

Lawyers and activists raised their votes to denounce the government’s decision.

Friday’s action “will provoke unnecessary chaos and sorrow for families and communities across the country,” said Karen Tumlin, founder and director of Justice Action Center, one of the organizations that filed the trial at the end of February. She called him “reckless, cruel and counterproductive”.

The Biden administration has granted up to 30,000 people a month from the four countries to come to the United States for two years with the eligibility for work. He convinced Mexico to take up the same number of these countries because the United States could expel little or not from their home.

Cuba generally accepted an expulsion flight per month, while Venezuela and Nicaragua refused to take it. All three are American opponents.

Haiti has accepted many expulsion flights, in particular after a wave of migrants from the Caribbean country in the small border town of Del Rio, Texas, in 2021. But Haiti was constantly swallowed, hampering American efforts.

Since the end of 2022, more than half a million people have come to the United States under politics, also known as CHNV. It was part of the Biden administration approach to encourage people to go through new legal channels while suppressing those who have crossed the border illegally.

The editor -in -chief of the AP, Elliot Spagat and the writer Tim Sullivan, contributed to this report.
