During the first round of the 2024 elections, Georgescu went from darkness to 22.9% of the vote. However, the Constitutional Court of Romania canceled the election, Citing credible evidence of foreign interference in its favor.
Georgescu, an ultra-nationalist, anti-EU and anti-nato candidate, would have been stimulated by Russian interference and a hybrid influence campaign on Tiktok.
He was prevented from running again in the elections postponed in May 2025, and faces criminal charges linked to the suspected promotion of fascist ideologies.
The cancellation of the elections and the subsequent prohibition of Georgescu to participate in the reprogrammed elections aroused the indignation of the right in the world, including senior personalities in Washington such as the billionaire Elon Musk and the vice-president JD Vance.
Expressing his gratitude to his supporters, Georgescu stressed that he did not plan to join a political party or a movement. “However, if I see that the rights of those who have chosen differently are violated, I will be involved in a clear voice again to defend the principles of democracy and freedom,” he said.
During the election of the do-over in May 2025, moderate candidate Ucucuşor Dan defeated Georgescu’s hard ally, George Simion, winning with more than 53% of the vote.
