HArlingen – This fall, students of the Texas State Technical College wind energy program can impatiently await an extended program program and new resources that can equip them for successful careers as wind technicians.
“Students will have access to new training opportunities and specialized courses such as repair of fiberglass blades, advanced climbing and rescue certification, maintenance and troubleshooting of gearbox, as well as wind energy technology and software technology designed to improve their skills and their career preparation,” said Ray Longoria, the team TSTC wind turbine in Harlingen.
Russell Benson, director of alignment of the TSTC wind energy technology program, said the program plans to register around 80 students this fall.
“Our priority 1 is to provide students with education and skills to work safely with electricity,” he said. “The upgrading of installations will make the learning experience more fulfilling. When the equipment and the facilities are exceptional, people concentrate better and do the work. ”
Eladio Jaimez, provost at the Harlingen campus in TSTC, said that the program expansion should help develop jobs in the region.
“By forming a qualified workforce of new wind turbines technicians, this will help to position TSTC as a key director to support the transition from Texas to sustainable energy and stimulate employment growth in the Rio Grande Valley,” he said.
According to oneetonline.org, the need for wind service technicians in Texas is expected to increase by 102% from 2020 to 2030. The average annual salary for a state technician is $ 59,290, according to the website.
The TSTC wind energy technology program offers a diploma in Applied Sciences Associate and a certificate of completion on the Harlingen and Sweetwater campuses.
