On the day of the opening of a high -level murder in Ontario in Ontario, the crown alleged that the accused had called on the father of his child to have a body which was finally found in a suitcase.
Carita Jackson is tried for the alleged murder in the second degree of Varsha Gajula, a woman from Caledon, whose body was found in a suitcase in Toronto during the summer of 2021.
In his opening speech to the jury, the assistant prosecutor of the crown, James Frost, said that the police had received a call on a suspicious suitcase which was located at the back of a company in 1530 Keele Street On August 25, 2021. When the police arrived, they found the body of Gajula stuffed inside the suitcase.
An autopsy revealed that the 41 -year -old woman died from injury to the head and neck, with signs of blunt trauma and several stabs.
Frost said that after Toronto police had led a large video canvas, they were taken to an apartment building at 101 Humber Blvd South, less than two kilometers from where the suitcase was found.

Frost said that a man by the name of Andre Bartley took the suitcase to a nearby village village before another man, Christopher Daley, picked him up in the value village and did it to the company From Keele Street next to a garbage dumpster where the suitcase was finally discovered.
The Crown told the jurors that Daley, one of the two men, will be one of the many witnesses to testify.
“You will hear about his involvement in eliminating the suitcase and that he called on Bartley to help without knowing it with elimination,” said Frost. “This is the theory of the crown, Jackson killed Gajula, left the building the next day to escape detection while Daley coordinated the cleaning.”
Frost also said that Daley had shared a child with Jackson and that in the months preceding the murder of Garjula, Daley was found guilty of having attacked Jackson and had a contactless command with her.
“You will hear that Daley is no stranger to the criminal justice system. For his role in eliminating the body, Daley pleaded guilty and was sentenced to accessory after the fact, “Frost told jurors.
Frost said that on the morning of August 21, Gajula had been seen at 101 Humber Blvd. Gajula was a frequent visitor to the building and was let in another tenant. Jackson lived in the apartment 1402. She arrived at home before 10 am that day and Gajula was already in the building.
Frost said that the building’s video surveillance will show that Gajula was seen for the last time leaving the elevator on the 14th floor, turning left around 2:17 p.m., Jackson was seen that day on the video leaving the elevator at 14th floor, and also turned to the left.
“Jackson was only reviewed on video the next morning when she left the bicycle building with Christopher Daley,” said Frost.
Frost told jurors that after having executed a search warrant in the apartment on the 14th floor of Jackson, blood was detected on the floors, cabinets and walls. The jury should hear the DNA profiles generated using discourages from the apartment will show that it is probably that of Gajula.
Jackson was arrested on August 30, 2021, five days after the discovery of his body in the suitcase.
The first witness to take a position was the detective. Const. Jennifer Taborski of the Toronto police homicide unit.
The jury saw video surveillance, including the video of civilians who discovered the suitcase, the movements of Daley and Bartley, and Gajula arriving at the Humber Blvd. Building the day it was seen for the last time.
The jury did not hear how or if Jackson and Gajula knew each other.
Jackson pleaded not guilty.
