Houston’s Texans debate a potentially important decision that could reshape the team’s daily operations and their footprint in the Houston region – Build a new practice of practice and a district of entertainment that accompanies it, potentially far from the longtime house of the franchise in Nrg Park.
The owner, Cal McNair, said on Monday that the organization was evaluating the options for a new head office and a team practice center. While NRG Park remains at stake, McNair said that the team was seriously considering alternatives throughout the region.
“Where we meet with the center of practice, I am not really sure. We have a lot of good options and we will sort this as soon as possible,” McNair told journalists during media availability at the Houston Texans Foundation golf tournament.
The Texans are currently operating one of the rare configurations of the NFL, with practice operations housed in the NRG stadium complex, which belongs to the county of Harris. However, McNair said it was probably not long -term long -term.
“Very few teams are in fact in the establishment, in the stadium like us. So, it’s no longer the standard to move.
Although the team is comfortable with its location of NRG Park, it is also open to moving its offices and its training facilities.

“What is great is that we are ok where we are. So this is our starting point,” said McNair. “Could we move? Yes, we would move and make a whole new one somewhere.”
The president of the Texans, Mike Tomon, has developed the possibilities that accompany the construction of a new installation, in particular the one that could be part of a wider entertainment district.
“This is a fairly unique situation these days. The value that Texans can bring to a community … We really see that there is an excellent way to be able to have an impact on the community in an excellent way. To ensure that it is an asset for the community for people who are there, and with whom is accompanied by income opportunities,” said Tomon.
Dallas cowboys exploit the most notable development in the league linked to a practical head office / installation. The star opened in 2016 in a suburb north of Dallas and includes many restaurants, bars and shops in addition to a hotel, an office space and residential units. The total size of development is more than 90 acres.
Tomon, hired in January, has experience in the sports commercial space. He spent a decade as a COO in Legends, which helps teams operate restaurants and hospitality in stadiums in addition to managing places.
He highlighted the growing popularity of entertainment districts in sports sites, and said they could offer advantages beyond a new space for the team and its employees.
“These are great opportunities for business partners to commit, they are great opportunities for other retail, local retail, national retail shops,” said Tomon.
Tomon said the team had had interviews with several entities that would have the land necessary for a new complex. However, construction at the NRG Park has not been excluded.
“It’s an option,” said Tomon. “We are good where we are, so we come from this position. But we explore other opportunities.”
The Texans are also working on plans to renovate and update the NRG stadium, where the team plays their home matches and has a lease until 2032. The franchise remains in talks with Rodeohouston and Harris County on a updated lease, according to McNair.
