Hartford, Conn. (WFSB) – If you get the wheel after drinking or consuming drugs, the Connecticut state police warn you: don’t do it! They don’t only say it; They intensify patrols with new powerful technologies to ensure the safety of our roads.
Remember that the legal bac limit in Connecticut for driving is 0.08% for ages 21 and over. If you are under the age of 21, the limit is even lower at 0.02%. Overcoming these limits can lead to serious consequences, in particular fines, license suspension and even imprisonment.
The police say to drivers suspected of drunk driving to blow seven seconds in a blood pressure. This long breathing can inform the police if the alcohol content of a driver is exceeded the legal limit in a few minutes.
The DRE Jessica Gleba is the director of laboratory operations at the Laboratory of Legal Medicine of Connecticut. It gave Channel 3 an exclusive visit to the Meriden laboratory, where the DUI data is collected and the state-state fleet of the state is updated, calibrated and maintained.
“”Currently, agents must bring us these instruments, and this could take hours from the whole state, “said Dr. Gleba.
But that changes in September when the laboratory deploys new software to rationalize and speed up this process.
“We are deploying the same instrument, the new technology, which will allow us to monitor what is happening in the field. We will be able to see the alcohols in real time. We can see if there is something that the officer must do to raise it and go to their end; We can adjust something as simple as the date and time, “said Dr. Gleba about the advantages of the new software.
This changes the situation for officers working at the DUI control points through the state. Real -time monitoring of the new software will also allow the laboratory to examine the key data to come, guaranteeing the accuracy and reliability of the results.
“Now we can see and modify it to make sure that all the results they publish are up to date and precise,” said Dr. Gleba.
The laboratory plays a crucial role in this area, because it can remotely calibrate the blood pressure on the ground, keeping these operational instruments longer. This ensures that officers can stay on the road and prevent drunk drivers.
There is one more room with this updated technology. In the future, a web portal will allow lawyers to attract test results and documents instead of asking them, making the process faster, more transparent and more practical for all parties involved.
