A federal prosecutor assigned to the corruption case against the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, resigned Friday in a blister letter This accused the best leaders of the Ministry of Justice of seeking a “fool” to reject the criminal charges.
Lawyer, Hagan Scotten, is the seventh person to resign for the calamitarian effort to reject the accusations against Adams. Scotten was a line prosecutor on the case and was put on administrative leave on Thursday for refusing to sign his dismissal.
In a letter to the interim assistant attorney general, Emil Bove, Scotten criticized what he called a “dismissal with a spear effect”.
“Any assistant American lawyer knows that our laws and traditions do not make it possible to use the power of prosecution to influence other citizens, even less elected,,” said Scotten in Bove, who is the former personal lawyer of President Donald Trump .
“If no lawyer within reach of the president’s voice is willing to give him this advice, then I expect you to find someone who is sufficient, or enough loose, to submit your request,” Added Scotten. “But it was never going to be me.”
Scotten, a graduate of Harvard Law, awarded two bronze stars as a troop commander in Iraq, is a experienced prosecutor who treated several cases of corruption in New York, including three partners from former mayor Rudy Giuliani. He also worked on other cases, against Bishop Lamor Whitehead, who is close to Adams and was sentenced to trial for several fraud chiefs. Scotten was also a clerk of chief judge John Roberts.
CNN contacted Scotten to comment.
The lawyer castigated the justification of the Directorate of the Ministry of Justice to seek to reject the case – that the abolition of accusations would allow Adams to devote his “full attention and resources” to the fight against illegal immigration and to his re -election campaign in 2025.
“No ordered system of freedom can allow the government to use the carrot to reject the accusations, or the threat stick to bring them again, to encourage an elected official to support his political objectives”, ”
Adams pleaded not guilty to five federal accusations. Currently, the Ministry of Justice has not filed its request in rejection of the case against Adams.
