The Manitoba government says it puts money for the rehabilitation and expansion of a small airport in southwest Manitoba.
The Minister of Municipal Relations and the North, Glen Simard, announced on Monday that $ 1.65 million would go to Virden regional airport, which will allow the community to accept commercial and medical flights such as the stars air ambulance.
“This is an important investment that will encourage regional development and job creation in Westman,” Simard said in a statement.
“Thanks to the hard work and the commitment of the City of Virden, this subsidy financing will improve the capacity of the airport, will support commercial growth and strengthen its role as a critical center for medical access, economic development and regional connectivity.”
Town coun. Bruce Dunning, chairman of the Virden airport commission, described the financing of “significant milestone” for the airport.
