The political organization that represents the Inuit in Quebec says that police in the extreme north east “broken” after an officer killed an Inu Tuesday.

Makivvik, a group that represents the Inuit of Nunavik, says that there is a police model using excessive force in the region.

In a press release, the chief of Makivvik Pita Aatami asked how many families had to suffer before the province “understands that the police in Nunavik is broken?”

The organization claims that the last death reflects a failure of the police to defuse a situation or to use a level of cultural understanding.

In November 2024, an officer killed Joshua Papigatuk and seriously injured his twin brother Garnet after the police responded to an allegation of driving with weakened faculties in Salluit, about 1,850 kilometers north of Montreal.
