Palmer, Alaska (KTUU) – The high waters flood companies near the Matanuska river in Butte.
Cynthia Izon, owner of the Dispensary of Cannabis Outpost, says that some companies along the Matanuska river have been forced to close due to the floods.
“Another company above, they have it even worse,” said Izon. “And then there is a tire store and it is completely flooded. I think they can still get into the property, but no business can occur right now.”
A Flood opinion was published Sunday by the National Weather Service for the regions of Palmer and Butte. The opinion, which was extinguished due to the mealing of snow and the displacement of the river canals, will last until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The outpost and several other companies are seated on Maud Road, where some of the worst floods took place, according to Izon.
“These are probably … six inches, seven inches where we have already attenuated it,” said Izon. “On the other side of the dike, it is probably up to my thighs, which is probably about two and a half feet.”
Despite damage to the region, Izon says that the community has been able to go out and help it build a dike from sandbags in front of its store.
“We just had so much help and it was a huge blessing for us that everyone stops and helps,” she said.
Izon also told the Alaska information source that he did not know that the floods will end, but people living in the region were invited to expect the repairs to be completed in the next two weeks.
