NEWPORT, ARK. (Kait) – An entertainment district could come to another city in the region 8.
An order in Newport hopes to establish an entertainment district in the city center.
The prescription will be headed for his third reading next week.
Changes could be on the way to the city center of Newport, which would have an impact on restaurants in the region.
“It is just time to get with the Times and get there,” said Postmaster Sprits, Ross Jones.
If they have passed, people could buy alcohol in a restaurant and get it out in an area designated.
Newport’s director of the Newport Economic Development Commission Jon Chadwell said tourism was the main engine of creating the entertainment district, especially for festivals, but that was not all.
“This will allow us to say that you cannot bring alcohol from the outside. If you are going to drink alcohol, you must go to one of the establishments and buy it, so it helps our local restaurants.”
Alcohol would not be authorized outside the limits of the district.

Postmaster Spirits is one of the restaurants in the city center. The owner Ross Jones said that the district would not only benefit the city.
“I think it would be a good thing for us,” said Jones. “The collaboration between the companies that help each other, I just think it’s a good way to bring people to the city center.”
Jones said that he had already seen the impact that an entertainment district could have, especially in Batesville Voisin.
“The crowd is larger this year; they are larger this year than in the past,” said Jones.
The order encountered a certain opposition to its second reading. Chadwell said that some were afraid that there was more alcohol consumption, but Chadwell said it would not be the case.
“We looked at the cities around us who have one, and they did not have this problem; in fact, they found that drinking was less when they can bring them,” he said.
The panels would mark the district and quotes would be given to those who go out with alcohol.
Chadwell added that companies would also be able to create sidewalk cafes, which is currently not authorized.
Ross thinks that the prescription could change the situation for the city and perhaps bring more neighbors to the city center.
“I hope we have more companies, the more crazy there are,” he said.
The ordinance will go to its third reading during the meeting of the municipal council on Monday, June 2 at 6:00 p.m. at the municipal building.
