Kasperi Kapanen scored on a rush in front of the net at 7:14 a.m. extension, and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Vegas Golden Knights 1-0 in match 5 Wednesday evening to qualify for the West Conference final for the second consecutive year.

“I think I have just been in the right place at the right time, I suppose, and that was certainly the case today; just having the puck that lies in the painting there and just trying to hit him in it and luck has entered,” said Kapanen after victory.

Kapanen’s goal supported another laundry performance of goalkeeper Stuart Skinner, who made 24 stops and attracted several songs of “St! St!” Fans of the Oilers in the crowd. Skinner, who led two games in the playoffs, also laundered the Golden Knights in match 4. It was his third consecutive start by replacing the injured Calvin pickard.

“It was fantastic,” said Skinner.

“The way we contributed, the quantity of shots blocked; I mean in the first – I think – three minutes, we had five shots blocked. You know that these are the things you need to win games, so all the credit goes to the guys in front of me, that’s for sure.”

Adin Hill made 29 stops for Vegas.

The two teams have also been involved in the last two goal -aimed playoffs to reach overtime. The oilers lost against Winnipeg on May 21, 2021, five days after the defeat of the Golden Knights by Minnesota.

The only victory of Edmonton’s qualifying series took place in 1997 on the Dallas. Vegas has not yet won a post-season match by this OT score.

The Golden Knights played without Captain Mark Stone due to an upper body injury that made him miss most of match 3 on Saturday. He played in match 4 on Monday, but was far from healthy.

None of the two teams marked in the first two periods, and the chances of scoring the first were more. There were only five chances of high danger, according to Natural Stat Trick, and the Golden Knights had four.

But each team had a chance of grade at the start of the third period. Brett de Vegas Howden fulminated on a carpet after taking a fantastic pass from Jack Eichel, and shortly after Leon Dragrait of Edmonton failed to convert into an escape. Connor McDavid had a 2 chance of 1 against 1 to end the match in the regulations, but was refused by Hill with 1:06 to play.

“I thought it was great, I thought everyone dug very hard,” said McDavid.

“I thought Sta was great, unfaring each time we had a breakdown. The killing was great – really defensive, really good. ”

The Oilers, who last season went to the Stanley Cup final before losing in seven games against Florida, will play Dallas or Winnipeg in the next round. The stars, who lead 3-1, will take the victory of the series Thursday evening.
