The Atlanta Municipal Council approves the neighborhood sports council
What we know:
The Atlanta municipal council approved the creation of the “neighborhood sports council” last week.
According to the city, the group will work with Atlanta Sports Council in order to respond to the concerns of the communities.
“The district sports council is created by these to respond to the concerns of the neighborhood during major events and facilitate collaboration with Atlanta Sports Council,” said the approved resolution. “The neighborhood sports council prioritizes communication and effective collaboration between neighborhoods, event organizers and other stakeholders to respond to concerns and implement solutions.”
The district sports council will include members of several neighborhood organizations and certain business associations.
The resolution indicates that it will remain in place until the end of 2026.
Vine City is one of the districts affected by the major events of the Mercedes-Benz stadium and the Georgia World Congress Center.
The neighbors say that being close to major events can be good, but also sometimes bad.
What they say:
“As residents, it is overwhelming with all this illegal car park,” said Linda Adams, president of public security of the Vine City Civic Association.
Adams has lived in the neighborhood for more than two decades, so it has experienced growth.
“We have obtained several people who come illegally, what they call gypsy parkers and invade our neighborhood with all this illegal car park,” she said.
Adams says that people have not set up any parking panel throughout the area in order to dissuade people, but it’s always a problem.
She says that, apart from illegal parking, noise and light pollution, among other things, Empire around major events that have an impact on neighbors.
“They say that the elderly go to bed early, but with them having the event up to 10 or 11 a.m., all we hear is car doors, and we just afraid that there Has a terrible accident, “she said.
Adams says she is happy that the municipal council takes the problems seriously.
“I can’t wait to see this sports advice from the neighborhood, and I hope to be part of it,” she said.
