The 20th annual showcase of the health science campus will take place from Monday, February 3 to Tuesday, April 1, on the 4th floor of the Mulford Library.

This year’s exhibition will showcase illustrations by 25 artists, including students, teachers and staff in health sciences in health and main campuses, as well as the University of Toledo Medical Center . A variety of works of 2D and 3D art will be exhibited, including paintings, drawings, photography, sandstones and mixed media.

An artist reception will take place on Friday, February 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., also on the 4th floor of Mulford. A conference will be given at 5.30 p.m. by Gerald Natal, health and social services librarian and associate professor in university libraries. Natal’s conference is entitled “The interior is the outside: an introduction to” Outsider art “.”

The Natal Conference will explore “external art”, a term invented to describe the art created outside of traditional cultural and artistic borders by individuals without formal training, in particular art produced by patients sick mental.

“He examines how such art has acquired recognition for his aesthetics and his impact on modern art movements,” he said. “Speech will also immerse itself in the themes of self-expression, authenticity, creativity and mental illness, and the evolutionary definition of art itself.”

“This is an exciting year for the window of artists from the Health Sciences campus, while we are celebrating our 20th year,” added the president of the HSC Artist showcase, Jodi Jameson. “In 2005, the first showcase was a solo exhibition, starring the paintings of Professor Associate Emeritus and local artist Paul Brand. Since then, the window has expanded and many of the same artists – Dr. Brand inclusive – continue to participate year after year. We owe the longevity of the window of these artists and their exquisite talents. »»

The reception and the conference are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.

For more details, please visit the 20th Annual Showcase Website of the Health Science Campus or contact Jodi Jameson at 419.383.5152 or jodi.jameson@utoledo.edu.
