The Montreal Canadiens Defender Lane Hutson won the Calder 2024-25 trophy as a recruit of the NHL year.
Hutson led recruits by scoring with six goals and 60 assists in his first NHL season while the Canadians made a surprise return to the playoffs this season.
His 60 assists equaled Larry Murphy (1980-1981) for the most by a recruit defender, while his 66 points followed Murphy, Brian Leetch (1988-89) and Gary Suter (1985-86) for the most part by a Blueliner recruit.

Hutson, selected 62nd in total by Montreal to the recovery of NHL 2022, is the second recipient of Calder Canadians in the era of expansion after goalkeeper Ken Dryden (1971-72).
The 21 -year -old was surprised by the trophy at a dinner attended by more than 50 families and friends.
Hutson was the first selection on 165 of the 191 bulletins cast by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Calgary Flames’s goalkeeper Dustin Wolf finished second in the vote, followed by the center of San Jose Sharks Macklin Celebrini.
