A teacher at Bath Middle School was surprised by a prize for national educators and a cash price of $ 25,000 Wednesday morning, making him the first teacher to receive the prize in the unit of the regional school 1 and the only teacher in Maine to receive the award this year.
The price, called the MILKEN educator Prizeprovides recognition and financial support to kindergarten educators to the 12th year across the country. The group behind him, the Milken Family Foundation, describes him as “teaching Oscars”. Since Maine joined the Foundation network in 1990, the State asked 77 educators to receive the prize, according to a press release.
Bath Middle School’s recipient was the professor of Sciences Micah Dépper, who was recognized for his enthusiasm, his approach and his leadership for the students, according to the press release. Some of its initiatives have included the supply of electronic music production to students and the start of a club to help students learn to play instruments.
“The group has become a safe, stimulating and creative outlet for these budding musicians whom they appreciate to date, offering them a strong sense of belonging and the motivation to excel academically and personally,” said the foundation.
A representative of the Foundation has given the price and the check to be expressed after teachers and students gathered in the school gymnasium for an assembly at the Maine Ministry of Education.
“I have the pleasure and the honor of being in a role where I have become in every class in this school in the past two years. And I can without reservation that it could have gone to so many of my colleagues here, who are just the hardest, devoted, incredible and innovative people group here. So, just to the whole community here, thank you, “said Depper after receiving the award.
The financial prize has no attached and DEPPER strings will also be able to attend a forum for other winners in Los Angeles in April.
