Officials say that a 30 -year -old man has been shot Peel the regional police Officers at Toronto Pearson Airport Thursday morning died.

Peel’s regional police chief Nishan Duraiappah said it was just before 7 am when the police received a call “to help resolve a dispute at Terminal 1 departures on the side of the sidewalk”.

Duraiappah said officers “gave themselves up to discussions” with a group of people – about two to three people – who “knew a dispute”. He said the police had spent a lot of time, about 10 to 15 minutes, trying to defuse and resolve the dispute.

“However, one of the people suddenly produced a firearm to our officers,” said Duraiappah, adding that there were three regional police officers from Peel who responded to the incident.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which acts as a province police guard and investigation of various incidents such as the shooting of officers, said that a 30 -year -old man had been shot.

The police chief said that only two police officers had “hired” with the man in the dismissal of their weapons. While the SIU initially declared that it was three officers, the guard dog corrected their information to say that it was only two.

Due to the participation of the SIU and the parallel investigation, Duraiappah said he was limited in the details he could share.

“Peel Regional Police Absolutely cooperate fully, “said Duraiappah.” We have a bodily camera video, and obviously we are in a place that has a lot of evidence and many witnesses. All of this will be available for the special investigation unit. »»

Duraippah added that the people involved in the dispute all knew each other and were at the airport for travel purposes, but he could not confirm whether the person who, according to him, had a firearm was also there to travel.

He said that she was a person in the group who first called the police and that the shooting occurred near a SUV on the edge of the edge.

“We answered what we thought was just a dispute. For a long time, for at least a few minutes, the police did their best to try to mediate it. At this point, there was no information on this level of risk,” said Duraiappah.

Pearson airport said it continued to “operate normally at the time”, but due to the police investigation, the Departures of Terminal 1 was closed. It reopened before 6 p.m. Thursday evening.

Ontario Prime Minister Doug Ford commented the shooting during the day.

“Isn’t it terrible, as does the world are coming from?” He said in a brief conversation with journalists. “The airport and the shots occur? It’s unacceptable.”
