Ridley Park, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – Delaware County officials say Prospect Medical Holdings, Inc. could close both the Crozer-Chester medical center in Chester and the Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park later this month.
The officials said Prospect had made this announcement in court.
The exact date of the closures remains fluid as the company continues bankruptcy procedure.
At a press conference Thursday, the community expressed its indignation with thousands of jobs that would be lost and patients whose care would be in danger.
“These people have no voice. They have nowhere to go, and they deserve quality health care like all the other Americans,” said Peggy Malone, president of Crozer-chester Nurses Association.
“Prospect came to our city, bought Crozer, broke out the health system and paid hundreds of millions of dollars to do so,” said Dr. Monica Taylor. “There is no room in health care for investment capital.”
The owner of California for lucrative of the health system filed for a bankruptcy in January and was prosecuted by the Pennsylvania Attorney General last year, the AG citing the mismanagement of the company and the negligence of Crozer’s health.
Then last month, a The federal judge in Texas signed an agreement as a temporary solution To maintain the largest health system in the county of Delaware, operating for the next 30 days. This was done with the hope that the health system and the state would have more time to form a long -term plan.
However, prospect officials informed a bankruptcy court on Thursday that there is only enough money to keep hospitals open until March 14, according to the county of Delaware.
State legislators now call for responsibility.
“Today, we stay together to call the Attorney General again to file a complaint to keep responsible prospects,” said representative Leann Krueger.
In a statement, the Attorney General Dave Sunday said in part that the closure is a “avoidable parody” and that his office was committed to doing what it takes to save the health care system.
A nurse says that things were not the same under the property of Prospect.
“They promised that they would not close hospitals. They closed the county of Delaware, they closed the Springfield hospital, (And ))They closed the Taylor operating room. All they have done was remove the services; They did nothing to help the system, “said Bonnie Broderick, of Boothwyn.
The members of the Delaware County Legislative Delegation described this a full crisis which endangers emergency services along the corridor of the I-95, vibrates maternal health care and exhausting even more pressure on already overloaded hospitals.
The judge ordered all parties to continue to negotiate. A meeting is scheduled for Sunday.
“It’s a sad day in the county of Delaware but I will tell you that it’s not over yet. We are still in this fight. We will always remain strong,” said senator Timothy Kearney.
The Government of the county of Delaware recently created a dedicated website, Delcopa.gov/ProspectTo keep residents up to date on the status of hospitals belonging to prospects, the bankruptcy of prospect and the additional resources available for residents. Residents are also encouraged to use the wellness line of Delaware County Health Department at (484) -276-2100.
