- Abhith Kasala, a Junior from Gainesville High School, won first place and the best of the program at the Alachua Regional Science and Engineering Fair for his research on microplastics.
- It was the second consecutive year that Kasala won the first prize at the regional fair, which earned him a place in the International Science and Engineering Fair.
- Kasala was recognized for his research during other prestigious events, including the Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition and the United Nations Summit of Sciences.
For the second consecutive year, the student of the Lycée de Gainesville, Abhith Kasala, won the first prize of the Regional Science and Engineering Fair in Alachua and will represent the county of Alachua during the International Fair of Sciences and engineering in May.
Announced Thursday evening, Kasala, a junior, won first place in the senior division of earth and environmental sciences and the best of high school students. His project, entitled “A new multi-organism approach and calculations to study the size of microplastics and the effects dependent on the concentration for the discovery of translational human biomarkers; and the deployment of microplastic sanitation systems based on plants, and scalable “focuses on measurement and limitation the harmful impact of microplastics on the environment, water quality, organisms aquatic and human health.
Kasala has been looking for the impact of microplastics and other contaminants since the fifth year. A previous version of his work has earned him a third place prize in the 2024 international fair and first place in Florida in the prestigious junior intercourse competition in Stockholm, which attracts tens of thousands of applications from 15 to 20 years old more than 40 nations. He has also won prizes in other sites, including the Junior Human Sciences and Human Sciences Symposium and students in students in terms of health occupation in America.

Kasala is one of the nine pupils of the public schools of the county of Alachua who will represent the district of the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair in early April.
