HArlingen – The sound of drones that skyrocketing general fees was something that Texas State Tania Valdez technical student appreciated when she served in the US Marine Corps for five years as a planeic technician.
“My job was to check any problem on a drone of military aircraft that did not work properly and resolve it,” said Valdez.
But becoming a mother required a change.
“I went to civilian life to focus on my family,” she said.
When Valdez’s children started at school, it gave him time to continue a new challenge.
“I wanted to find a link with my military job because I loved it,” she said. “The navies with which I worked suggested that I test the Aircraft Powerplant Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licenses. I did an online research of plane technicians with military experience. I learned that TSTC offered an aviation maintenance program. »»
Now Valdez is studying for a diploma in applied science in aeronautical technology in TSTC.
“The assignments were easy for me during the first half of the semester because this is what I did in the army,” said Mercedes resident. “We have done things like checking the weight and balance of an airplane and examining the basic electricity.”
Carlos Rodriguez, one of Valdez’s instructors, said that the problem solving skills Tania develops during laboratories, such as learning electrical airplane systems, has improved her ability to solve problems with planes .
“It is a highly sought-after skill on the aviation labor market,” he said.
Valdez said she had a specific objective that she is determined to achieve in TSTC.
“I would like to pass the FAA licenses from my plane and have a job before graduating,” she said.
