A mother and her three children return to the Harbor Sackets region in Jefferson County after the ice withdrew them from their home during a raid last month and held them in the Karnes County detention center in Texas, said MP Scott Gray on Monday.
The announcement was made two days after the director of the Harbor Sackets School, Jaime Cook, denounced Ice’s actions by taking the family as “unfathomable” and “unreasonable” and asked for their release in a open letter to the community.
Ice made the decision to release the family, Gray said in a statement on Monday.
“I am happy to share that the family at the center of this recent federal immigration affair returned home.
Governor Kathy Hochul last week also had Called for the exit of the family – A mother and her three children (3rd, 10th and 11th year), who were detained during a recent ice raid on a Ferme de Comté de Jefferson. The region houses Tom Homan of President Donald Trump. Tom Homan.
Hochul said on Monday afternoon that Homan had informed him of the mother, the third pupil and two teenagers were on the way to Jefferson County.
On Saturday, saying that she had to speak clearly, Cook wrote that the community was united in shock and calling for the return of the family.
“We deserve better than spin and disinformation,” said Cook.
She said the family had done everything.
“They had declared themselves to immigration judges, attended the court on their assigned dates and followed the legal process,” said Cook.
They are not criminals, and they also have links with criminal activities, she said. The family worked in the category and the “Old McDonald’s” dairy farm nearby for 15 years, she said.
“The fact that the ice went to their door is unfathomable. The fact that our students were handcuffed and put in the same van as the alleged criminal on the street is unacceptable,” said Cook.
Gray said the family will be released following a health examination, follow -up with ICE and an investigation interview with the case agent in charge of the investigation.
“Although we salute the resolution, it is despite the spread of the disinformation of many sources surrounding this case,” said Gray, adding that it was “a difficult and emotional question for many”.
The superintendent of Harbor Sackets, Jennifer Gaffney, said that school employees were delighted that the family returns home.
“We are committed to providing the care, understanding and sensitivity necessary for our students and our staff to start the healing process for this traumatic experience. In this difficult period, the strength and compassion of our community shone to support our missing family and the whole school community, “she said.
