The announcement of Joe Biden that he received a diagnosis of prostate cancer relaunched questions on the health problems with which the former American president was dealing with the White House.
On Sunday, in a statement, Biden’s office said that the 82 -year -old was diagnosed on Friday after seeing a doctor for urinary symptoms.
Some doctors expressed their surprise that the aggressive form of cancer, which has spread to its bones, had not been detected earlier.
Others have pointed out that cancers can develop quickly without the patient with symptoms – and that men over 70 are not systematically examined.
President Donald Trump told journalists on Monday that his predecessor should have been more transparent with the public, seeming to suggest – without proposing evidence – that the diagnosis of cancer had been covered.
“I think it’s very sad in fact. I am surprised that the public was not informed a long time ago,” said Trump at a White House event.
“It could take years to reach this level of danger. So look, it’s a very, very sad situation. I feel very bad about it, and I think people should try to discover what happened.”
Biden has not yet responded to Trump’s comments, who came in the midst of information that the Democratic assistants sought to hide other public health conditions before the 2024 elections.
The Republicans claim that Biden, who presented himself to re -election as older history of history at 81, was mentally and physically unfit for his functions. He abandoned the race last summer after a disastrous debate performance against Trump.
According to Original Sin, a new book by journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, Biden was unable to recognize the actor and Democratic donor of Hollywood George Clooney or to recall the names of key aid of his last year in power.
The authors write: “Biden’s physical deterioration – the most apparent in his interrupted walk – had become so serious that there were internal discussions on the wheelchair in wheelchair, but they could only do it after the elections.”
The advertising generated by the book has forced senior democrats to ask questions about the reasons why they did not do more to answer the concerns of the Americans about Biden’s health when he campaigned to re -election.
“It was a mistake for the Democrats not to listen to the voters earlier,” said Senator Chris Murphy on Sunday.
After the news of the diagnosis of Biden, the vice-president JD Vance wished him good luck, but then asked if the doctors or the members of the Biden staff sought to prevent the public from knowing the real state of his health.
“It is not the child’s game, and we can pray for good health, but also recognize that if you are not in good health to do the work, you should not do the work,” he added.
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, an oncologist who worked as an advisor Covid of Biden’s White House, was one of those who claimed that Biden was probably sick of cancer for some time, without necessarily knowing it.
“He did not develop in the last 100, 200 days. He had it while he was president,” he told Morning Joe Show in MSNBC. “He probably had it at the start of his presidency in 2021. Yes, I don’t think there is disagreement on this subject.”
American medical guidelines do not recommend routine blood projections for men over 70, as prostate cancers can be very slow, and testing of tests and processing can prevail over the risk of cancer.
Biden had already been diagnosed with a benign prostate enlargement. In 2019, before his elected official, his campaign published the report of his medical screening, saying that he had been treated with drugs and surgery, “and never had prostate cancer”.
This led to questions about the question of whether Biden was tested at any time in his four -year presidency – and why the diagnosis arrived so late.
“I guess the former president obtains a very deepened physique each year,” Dr. Chris George of the Northwestern Health Network told Reuters. “It’s a bit difficult for me to believe that it had one (blood test) in the past year that was normal.”
However, Dr. Robert Figlin, acting director of Cedars-Sinai cancer, told the BBC that the aggressive manner of Biden cancer had presented was not so unusual. And he warned criticism against “assuming something was missed along the way”.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer for men, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
According to the American centers for the control and prevention of diseases (CDC), out of 100 American men, 13 will receive a diagnosis of prostate cancer during their lives, and two or three men will die.
