The Department of Political Science hosts an event focused on southern Yemen
The state of Fresno Department of Political Science will organize a lunch and a round table on local and international subjects linked to the history of southern Yemen and the current events of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, February 6, At the Maison des Anciens Smittcamp (2345 th San Ramon Ave.).
Academic experts and community leaders will also discuss the Local Community of South Yemeni. The event is organized by the American center for studies in southern Yemen And the community of southern Yemen in California.
The public is invited to RSVP For the event at 4 p.m. Wednesday February 5and the recording of events begins to February 9.
The first panel will focus on the history and culture of the community in southern Yemen The central valley and will include discussions on origins, growth and economic role in recent decades. Raina Madhrem Shaibi (South Yemen Community of California) will be expressed on the arrival and trajectory of the local Yemeni community, and Dr Flagg Miller (Professor UC Davis) will present his research on the cultural aspects of the South Yemen Society.
The second panel focuses on current conditions in southern Yemen, including economics, policy and security. This panel will explore the main grievances of the people in southern Yemen demanding the self -determination, influence and involvement of neighboring countries and the long and complicated peace path in Yemen. The speakers include Khaled al-Yamani (former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Yemen), Dr. Michael Rubin, (Senior Fellow, American Enterprise Institute), Ala Muhin (researcher, South24 CNS) and Fernando Carvajal (Executive Director, American Center for South Yemen studies).
An opening speech will be delivered by Khaled al-Yamani, who has occupied previous roles as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Yemen from 2018-2019 and permanent United Nations representative from 2015 to 2016. He was the chief negotiator From the permanent mission of Yemen to the UN of 2009-10 during its presidency of the group of seventy-seven developing countries and China. He also negotiated the result document of the conference for examining the objectives of the development millennium in 2010.
According to the organizers of the event, the event is not intended to promote a political program or a particular political position, but focuses on a constructive learning experience in the community of southern Yemen, the civil conflict in progress in the region and the various interests represented therein.
The event is co -packed by Pi Sigma AlphaThe Honorary Society of Political Science in the State of Fresno. Lunch will be provided by Firestone Burger, a local Yemeni restaurant.
