A recent Community health assessment Led by Saint François Hospital and local organizations in Hartford, Connecticut, said that 26% of Hartford residents find it difficult to pay for food and 17% find it difficult to pay for accommodation. These percentages are much higher than the numbers on a state scale, which are 11% and 9% respectively. The CHNA has also revealed that obesity affects approximately a third of adults in the Grand Hartford and that diabetes rates are raised in the elderly, black adults and low -income adults in the region.
Saint Francis, who is part of Trinity Health of New England and Trinity Health, participates in the community investment program of the health system. This program supports local initiatives that build infrastructure to solve problems such as food insecurity and housing and promote positive change.
The community investment program has started $ 5 million in Hartford to improve health and quality of life results. Community investments in Trinity Health serve priority communities, which are areas that have been faced with serious economic challenges, have received significant support from health insurance or financial assistance, or which have experienced past disinvestment.
